Thursday night came and without any of my regular playmates (read. Helge and Vagn) I joined up with Ian, who had only played one time before.
I was requested to make a list of confident trained troops against Ian’s confident veteran.
Even though not totally confident with my list I started to deploy my platoons after having drawn “Encouter-mission”.
Having 8 platoons with 2iC with mortars I placed my two pioneer platoons alongside with two minefields and my heavy artillery. Last but not least my two Jagdpanthers.
I deployed last so Ian had the first move, and was very aggressive with his HQ trying to blow away my artillery but I dodged the bullet, but he had luck blowing my jagdpanther out with semi-indirect fire with his challenger, and the situation was grim before my first turn.
I was in luck when Ian come in close of my artillery and I pummeled his 1iC, and he redeployed his 2iC behind a house but this changed nothing because he lost his 2iC next turn.
The remaining Jagdpanther stepped up and took out a squadron in the next steps even though gotten shot several times, but with lucky dices it escaped destruction although being in harm’s way.
Ian got reinforcements in form of tank destroyers but the Jagdpanther got in cover and forced the tank destroyers forward in range of the artillery, which got lucky with hits destroying two platoons within two turns.
Ian was forced to be more aggressive because my reinforcement in form of 4 Pak40’s took out his Stuarts within 2 turns, but he got lucky and bombarded the s… out of my Pak40’s – lost 3 guns and failed morale.
After turn 9 Ian decided, after consultation with other player, to concede.
I only lost one platoon, and Ian had lost 3 platoons and no armoured platoons left to contest me.
A nice game.
